The number of birth has been increasing in recent years. As a result of it, maternity mortality has not decreased. The maternal mortality rate was 18 last year and 14 were in this year.

As the birth, the number of live births in the first 11months of 2008 reached at 58.1 thous. This shows increase of 14.0 percent or 7.1 thous. compared to the same period of previous year. The number of mothers delivered child was 58.0 thous.showing an increase of 14.4 percent or 7.3 thous. mothers compared to the first 11 months of the previous year.

In the first 11 months of 2008, the infant mortality per 1000 live births was 19 showing an increase 2 point and under five mortality per 1000 live births on an equal level compared to the first 11 months of previous year.

The infant mortality rate under the age of /1 per 1000 live births/ was higher than the national average in Uvurkhangai, Dornogovi, Govisumber, Bayankhongor, Khentii, Arkhangai, Govi-Altai, Khuvsgul, Umnugovi, Sukhbaatar and Uvs aimags.

In the first 11 months of 2008, the maternal mortality was 29, an decreases by 32.6 percent or 14 mothers compared to the same period of previous year, this is positive effect.But under 5 child mortality was 1342, an increases by 21.7 percent or 239 children compared to the same period of previous year.
