Mongolia and South Korea Cooperation in Tourism

L.Gansukh, Minsiter of Environment and Tourism, went to the Republic of Korea yesterday to pay an official visit. During the four-day visit, he plans to meet with Ministers of Environment, Culture, Physical Culture and Tourism of South Korea.

Especially, he will come to agreement on involving South Korea in the op level meeting on the Climate Change to be hosted under the auspices of N.Enkhbayar, President of Mongolia, and on organizing annually a consultative meeting between Ministries of Environment of the two countries.

Our two countries established an intergovernmental negotiation of Mongolia-the Republic of Korea on “Cooperation in Tourism Sector” in 2003 in order to develop the cooperation.

In recent years, the number of tourists from South Korea to Mongolia has increased constantly by 8-10 percent. 39.930 tourists from South Korea came in Mongolia in 2006 and 43.930 were in 2007.

The number of tourists from the Asia-Pacific region decreased due to July 1 riot and the Beijing Olympic Games and 43.396 from S.Korea visited our country decreased by 1.2 percent compared to previous year.

Furthermore, the number of Mongolian citizens to South Korea has increased constantly and 43.807 traveled to the country in 2007 and 4774 of them traveled officially, 20.766 for private, 6088 for tourism, and others for studying and working.
