Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ Joint peacekeeping field exercises of Armed Forces of Mongolia and Russia are successfully being run here under the code name "Darkhan-1".
Such activities were not organized between the Armed Forces of the two countries since the times when quartered in the country soviet military units left Mongolia upon the democratic revolution 20 years ago. This time, Russian servicemen were welcomed friendly. The field exercises are run at two places, close to Ulaanbaatar and Erdenet.
Prime Minister S.Bayar attaches a high significance to the bilateral cooperation in the military and defense spheres. Last Saturday, he was present at the joint exercises nearby Ulaanbaatar. S.Bayar was accompanied by Defense Minister L.Bold and Chief of the General Headquarters of Mongolian Armed Forces Ts.Togoo.
Commander of the Armored Service of Siberian Military District, Major-General V.R.Konovalov noted that the purpose of the joint training is to enhance a preparedness of Mongolia's Armed Forces for the participation in peacekeeping activities.
According to Vice Minister of Defense S.Baasankhuu, an agreement on running these exercises was reached during official visit of Russia's Defense Minister to Mongolia in May 2008. The present action is covering only technical supplies and services.
Seventeen containers full of 5-6 bilion togrog worth spare parts of military techniques have been delivered from Russia. Participants of the field exercises are pursuing an objective to repair military techniques of Soviet production and to provide their preparedness.
