Ulaanbaatar air pollution

This is one of the major disadvantages of living in Ulaanbaatar during the winter, specially, during November through March.

If you are traveling there during this time, do not plan to stay in Ulaanbaatar longer, enjoy the fresh air in countryside of Mongolia.

The Mongolian Development Foundation spent two billion MNT for decrease of air pollution of Ulaanbaatar in 2007.

Even though, this money has been added with 10 billion MNT, a problem of the air pollution can’t be decided until now.

There are three thermal power stations burning five million tons of coal, and over 250 boiler-shops using 400 tons per year in Ulaanbaatar, capital city of Mongolia. These boiler-shops and stations spray over 200 kinds of toxins in the city’s air.

Besides of them, 136 thousand households burn total of 625 thousand tons of coal and 237 thousand cubic meter of wool every year.

Also, spraying from 95 thousand automobile transports, protoxide of carbonic acid and pollution of heave metal are polluting the air of Ulaanbaatar.
